Otter +query
Another image from Saturday morning. This was taken about an hour after my first posting when the light was a little bit better. I believe this is a different otter to the first as the first looked to me to be a young bitch. This one was larger and I believe could be the mother of the first. Although the both otters were never seen together, each was seen at different parts of the stream at the same time. I am fairly certain that this is not a male and when I put this image up on the screen it almost looks to me as if it could be a pregnant female. Maybe, maybe not as it could just be the way the belly is pushed to the ground as the otter came out onto the bank. On this occasion the otter simply came up onto the bank for a few seconds before returning to the water. I'd be interested to hear if anyone has a more qualified opinion as to sex / pregnancy.
1/180th @ F4.5 iso 1600
500mm
Full frame other than a slight all round crop to get it a bit more level.

Hi Robert,
the head does not look broad enough for a dog otter so I would say a bitch. Difficult to say whether it is pregnant, as you say it could be the way it is lying on the bank but it certainly looks heavy and the side is bulging slightly, or it could just be fat! Cracking image by the way and as you say the light has made a difference.
I notice you have a 500mm at f4.5. Is that the Sigma? If it is how do you find it as I'm contemplating getting one but have read mixed reviews.

Lovely shot of such an elusive animal, well captured. She does look rather plump, but I guess you'll just have to wait and see?
