Thought I would post this image to compliment my previous posting, one of the pair together, bg is the previously mentioned barn....
This is also one of the few where my technique didn't let me down, Even a heavy and solid Gitzo 500 at full stretch with operator stood on tiptoes on a box isn't really adequate
I actually like the hint of the barn in the bg but understand that it will not be to everyones taste....
All the best

Love the birds and the perch. Personal feeling is that the background needs either to be sharp or a complete blur. Might have tried another shot at low f stop to compare? Either that or just have the brick as a background without the roof by shifting tripod a bit.
Unfortunately f11 was the widest I could go and still maintain a level of sharpness in both birds, am waiting for permission to move round onto private land by the barn which should afford better light, (had to wait for a cloud to cover the sun as it was moving to the side and rear, creating harsh lighting that even fill flash couldn't counter) and a better bg.
Wethere you like the background or not the birds and perch really pop out of the image with a real 3D effect,Nice colouring and eye detail

Hi Phil
Another great shot, often not easy to get both birds sharp - which you have. I quite liked the BG on the last image and don't mind it on this one, I think because you have set the scene and as Dave said the birds stand out well!
I prefer this to your last image, but I couldn't say why! (Both are superb btw!) I quite like the barn in the background - you know it's there, but it doesn't distract from the swallows.

I think this is wonderful. I've really wanted to see swallows perched with something other than plain blue sky behind. I think the colours are really complimentary and can totally understand why you chose this vantage point. You must have been very happy when you looked through the viewfinder. Maybe the high F stop makes the background a little blotchy, but not so much that it is distracting.
Really well done... great to have both birds sharp!

a very nice picture of the beautiful birds.

I find the subject crisp and clear enough that the b/g doesn't really bother me. I like it.
Best wishes
