Hi All,

Photo'd this tiny bird in Formby a couple of weeks ago. First time I'd even seen them and was amazed at how approachable they are. This one fluttered its way around a birch tree for a few minutes only a couple meters from me. I then found out how hard they are to photograph being so small, twittering, twitching and fluttering!!!This was only 1 of 3 sharp shots out of 30.

Personally, I think its a little boring and the lighter area of the background annoyingly cuts through the subject. But I rarely focus on small birds so thought its an 'ok' effort. All feedback welcome!

Camera Model: Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II
Shutter speed: 1/160 sec
Aperture: 5.6
ISO: 200
Lens: 300mm & 1.4x

Hi Elliott, if im really honest: it doesnt work for me. I think its a great job getting an image of this bird (i dont have any.... ) but the twig is too big when compared with the tiny bird and the background is unsettling for me.

Nice effort, it shows off the amazingly bright crest well.

Shows off the crest well. At least you have some shots of this species.

I really like this Elliot. I suppose that one could argue that the background highlight is a tad distracting but it is more than compensated for by the great pose and fantastic detail of the bird.

Perhaps the backdrop may not be ideal but you've still managed a good clean and uncluttered shot of these cute, but tricky little blighters. :toast:
