I need to preserve some old hand-written diaries and letters from the late 19th, early 20th century. They are in good condition. About 10 diaries with 80 pages each. Can you suggest a suitable digital imaging scanning program for doing this? Any other advice would be appreciated?

Any flatbed scanner you buy will likey store the scans in a format for you to use. I have recently seen some old documents where I work that were scanned and converted into pdf files and assembled into an ebook. Since you have about 800 pages to scan it will take quite some time. I hope this helps.

I'd go the PDF route too. It seems an easy way of assembling this type of thing.
I think a good portion of scanners on the market will do this with their bundled software.
