Today's get together in Portland
It was really nice to chat with Marylynne, Wade & his dad as well as John this afternoon here in Portland. Thanks for organizing this Marylynne & John. Because of my schedule I miss a lot of these get together s. You all should try and make them--they are a fun few hours.
We touched on a lot of subjects. I brought up this you tube video that I have watched many times. I recommend it to everyone. We can learn a lot from the past. How many of you know who Stieglitz, Paul Strand, Minor White , and more were? What we are all striving for didn't begin with Ansel. Like painting and music ( Mozart's birthday was this past week!) we can really learn from the early master. Have you hared of Stieglitz?

P Lease take e an hour and watch this video. Absorb some of Stieglitz's thoughts on our art. He is spot on and is really the father of modern photography.

We also talked a lot about HDR. As most of you kn ow, I am not a huge HDR fan. I hsve shot maybe 20-25 HDR images total. However sometimes I just "let it go": and photo art the crap out of stuff. The image attached is one such example. This is a caboose here in Portland in te rail yards that was at onetime occupied by someone. Now it's just abandoned and has been grafittied to death. Most of you don't think of my work in this vein, but I have some images that are pretty different what hat I typically publish... It's a lot of fun---experimenting can be quite rewarding at times.

Great times! Thanks to Marylynne for putting the afternoon together, and to all for the great afternoon shooting the breeze.

That's an amazing photo Jack, true art! I'm glad you posted it; it would be hard to imagine just from your verbal description.

I haven't had a chance to watch the video yet, but will do so.
