Pawnee National Grasslands
My first little trip to check out the Pawnee National Grasslands area. Would be a great location to shoot my skyscapes.

Some sunset shots, but hoping for a better sunset next time - it'll do for now!

And one more...

The first one is my fav. I like images of old buildings and such. Very stark with the abandoned building, leafless trees, and brittle dead grass.

Great photos, especially that first one!

These are really cool. The house image has a moody, almost spooky, feel to it but I love the B&W treatment and the sharpness of all of the textures in the scene. A great tribute to a remnant settlement left from the Dust Bowl days. I also like both windmill images, the separations in the cloud formations coincidentally seem to echo the look of the mill blades.

Another vote for #1. Cool shot!

That first image is wonderful, David. I really like the comp, and your processing works really well. The lower left area isn't all that interesting to me. I wonder if some slight vignetting would help. This is a nit, but the almost vertical cloud above the left side of the house draws my eye because it looks like a contrail, even though I don't think it is. (hard to tell at this size). Anyway, nice work.

I like the first one quite a bit! Great subject framed well by the old trees, and I like the 'lowdown' approach you took in composing this scene. I think that cropping both sides (left more than right) for a closer to square format works well here and you lose the pivot sprinkler (?) on the right in the meantime.

Yes siree, number 1 for me! Great B/W treatment on that one.

I prefer #3 with its cloud fan. The vane on the mill aligned with the cloudlines helps too.

These are all nice but the first one is outstanding. Excellent b&w conversion and perfectly composed. I just love it.

Thanks all! The B&W was a 5 minute edit - I still have to try the HDR version and compare. I might re crop, but I like to keep most work at the 2:3 ratio since it makes it standard for matted prints, makes my life easier! I did use a slight vignette, but backed it off a little. Also used a ND grad filter in LR for the sky. I always like to take a step back before doing a final edit.

They're all excellnt, but #1 is one of the best Dustbowl relic shots I've seen from PNG!
