Brilliant image. A picture that definitely saves a thousand words.

Although there is a bottle in the water it must be clean (and alcohol free presumably!) or the otter wouldn't be there. The picture says a lot for mankind and for the otter too and what they have to put up with. I think this picture makes a great statement and whilst not to everyones taste I personally think its your best yet. And man are you close with that 300mm lens!
Nick.

Tells a sad story though Robert, great image showing what this animal and the many others have to contend with within our countryside

Keep the otters coming

Great shot.
About the bottle, it's part of his/her environment. But it shoud not be there I agree.
To redress the balance a bit: this stretch of water is actually very clean and healthy. There appears to be an extremely abundant supply of fish as the three otters I have watched are constantly pulling out fish of varying sizes. There was also three kingfishers flying about yesterday along with herons, cormorant, water rails and moorhens etc. The stream carrying water into the lake passes through a village so there will inevitably be the occasional bit of detritus thrown in and, whilst it is very sad to see this, it doesn't appear to be a common occurrence so hopefully the water will remain healthy. It was just Sod's Law that the only worthwhile image that presented itself to me on that morning, would be spoiled by that bottle! However, as several of you have mentioned, the picture could be a useful image to illustrate a point, so all is not lost.
Incidentally, a lady I spoke to yesterday said she had seen 5 otters at this spot last week. Whilst keeping an open mind, she never saw all 5 at one time so it is possible that she may have been counting one or two twice.

It's actually a good image showing what is happening in today's society and how little people care for our environment nowadays unfortunately. The bottle can presumably be cloned out with some PS work but in real life this is what we are facing so showing it this way might be best.
