I've been hoping that my ability to afford a new camera and the release of the D800 would coincide somewhere over the next year or two. I'm very curious to see what the price of this camera will be.

According to Thom Hogan, the D800 will be $3000. Pricey, but less than half the cost of the 24mp D3X. http://www.bythom.com/d800intro.htm

The best harbinger of Spring next to Crocus flowers is gear lust!

There's some more news about the D800 from NPN members in the Photo Gear Forum. Interesting…

There was a question about Nikon lenses with the 36 MP on the gear forum. All their modern lenses should be fine. I use a 16-35 f4 on the D3x, it is a fantastic lens on that camera as well as their newer 24-120 f4. They will be great on the new camera too.

I was really looking forward to the D800 and 800e 's 36 mp - but am extremely disappointed at the LOWER frames per second than my C300, even with the additional battery grip - I need fast bursts for flying birds! ratz!

It really isnt going to be a good fast moving object camera. To really get everything you pay for you will need a tripod all the time too.

For people hand holding and cropping heavily, the images may not be what they expect.
