Another "tick"
Grey Wagtail
Another first at the pool. Only got the one shot in appalling conditions but can't always be choosy ! This bird has been feeding under the fat balls in front of the kitchen window. The stream where it comes from is 600 yards away.

Very nice image John. Like the snowy background. Hope you don't mind me mentioning but the small stone chips look a little unnatural in the pool. Those are the 6-10mm type used for roughcasting and I think larger stones or pebbles say 20mm+ in size with more of a mixture might look more natural.

Nick
I agree entirely. Trouble is I haven.t made my mind up yet . The gravel is purely to adjust the water level. Eventually the subsrate will be natural for the pool area which is bunter sandstone or even just soil. The oriiginal bottom is below the gravel but was much too deep. May even try a mix of pebbl;es and sand - its all good fun anyway !
Cheers

The substrate does not look too bad to me, at least when you have a grey wagtail on it. I can accept that as reasonably natural-looking. By the way, John, if you had a barn owl drinking at your pools next I don't think any of us would be that surprised!

I can agree with Nick that the pebbles look a bit unatural John but on the plus side they do bounce a little light back into the scene. Lovely birds.

Looks good to me. I like the ice on the pool.
