Need Help Switching Off Printer's Colour Management

I'm working with an iMac desktop (OX Lion), a Canon Pixma Pro9500 MKII Inkjet Printer, and I use Lightroom 3 (LR3) to print my images from.
We’ve had to introduce a new type of paper into our printing and the colours are not coming out as accurately as I’d like. After researching this more thoroughly, I discovered the benefit of using the correct ICC profile (!), but I’ve run into a challenge that’s gotten the better of me: As LR3 warns, when selecting a custom profile, one needs to turn off the printer colour management in the Print dialogue.
Fine by me, but the problem is I can’t find anywhere either in LR3 or in my iMac’s printer control settings where I can actually do this.
I’ve been back through the relevant sections in Scott Kelby’s usually spot-on and easy to understand LR3 users manual, and though he confirms the necessity of choosing “Off (No Color Management)”, the screen grabs he offers in his book, showing where this selection can be made, are different from the pop up settings and roll-down menus I see before me in LR3 on my monitor.
He writes, “Click and hold on the dialog’s main section pop-up menu, and choose Printer Settings (as shown here).” But I don’t have the words “Printer Settings” anywhere in that pop-up menu, and I can’t find them anywhere.
He does go onto say in the same paragraph, “By the way, the part of this dialog that controls printer color management, and your pop-up menu choices, may be different depending on your printer, so if it doesn’t look exactly like this, don’t freak out.” Well, having spent more than a couple of hours now trying to find those all-important words with still no luck, freaking out is exactly what I’m on the verge of doing!
He’s using an Epsom printer, and the only other hints he offers readers as to where they might be able to find Printer Settings is for those who use a PC instead of a Mac.
PLEASE, someone, anyone, help me get to the bottom of this; having dealt with numerous delays over the past few weeks I’m trying desperately to get our gallery open this coming Friday, and I still have many images I need to print up in preparation for that. I’ve already wasted a considerable amount of time and money on a variety of mistakes and oversights, and while I’m all for learning curves and dealing with challenges, this little bugger is doing my head in ;^.
Apologies for the long post and that last bit of emotion; I’m at the end of yet another very long day in a protracted series of them of late. Thanks in advance for your time, attention and, hopefully, some timely assistance to bring me back from the brink ;^.
Good Morning Ashley,
In the print module, under the "print Job" section at the very bottom labeled "color management". click on the up/down arrowes to the right of the profile.( In your case it probably says "managed by printer"). That will open a window with all of the selectable profiles available. At the top it should say "managed by printer" that will have a check mark next to it until you select one of the available profiles.
Then when you go and press print, in the "color Management" section, in my case for epson, both options will be greyed out and not selectable. Under "print settings" "basic" color and color settings should both be greyed out and not selectable. "Advanced color settings" should say something like "Canon driver color management is off". That will confirm that the color management is being controlled by LR3.
Good luck and good printing.
Neil

Many thanks for your swift response Neil.
When I click on the up/down arrows to the right of the "Profile", four options come up:
Managed by Printer
Canon Pro9500 MKII <FB> 1 Fine Art Museum Etching
Canon Pro9500 MKII <SG> 1 Photo Paper Plus Semi-Gloss
Other
When I choose either of my related profiles, underneath that it reads, "When selecting a custom profile, remember to turn off printer colour management in the Print dialog before printing. Black Point Compensation will be used for this print."
When I go and press "Print" under the same "Color Management" section, the pop-up window does indeed show next to the first field "Printer" the words "Canon Pro9500II Series", but I see no words anywhere in that window (or any of the pull-down menus, including the one that starts with "Layout") that spell out, "Basic", "Color", Color Settings", "Print Settings", or "Advanced Color Settings", and certainly nothing that comes close to "Canon Driver Color Management Is Off", which of course is the main one I'm hoping for and am still flummoxed by.
The closest I have in the drop-down menu that starts with "Layout" are:
Color Matching - which shows two options (both greyed out), the first being selected reads "ColorSync" and the one next to it that's apparently not been selected, "Canon Color Matching"
And:
Color Options - when the drop down features of this menu appear, there are a number of sliders to manually control, but even if I knew what I water to do, none of them are actually operative.
So I'm still in search of the words “Printer Settings” and ultimately a box or field I can click "Off (No Color Management)”
Any other ideas or suggestions would also be very much appreciated!
P.S. It's just after 11pm my time and I'm off to bed after this; sincerely hoping to find further help on this issue when I wake tomorrow morning from you or anyone if possible, and again, many thanks in advance!

I just went through this exercise this morning working with a client who prints with a Canon 9500. Here's a link to a short video that shows how to turn it off

Thanks for the link Keith! Looks like it would be the perfect solution, but for the fact that it's aimed at Window XP users, and for better or worse I'm using Mac OS X.
Neil kindly got back to me by email with further assistance, but the main problem is still that in the drop-down menu in either LR3's Print or Print Settings window he has these choices:
Layout
Color Martching
Paper Handling
Cover Page
----------------------
Print Settings
Paper Configuration
Page Layout Settings
----------------------
Supply Levels
Whereas, mine shows the following:
Layout
Color Martching
Paper Handling
Cover Page
----------------------
Quality & Media
Color Options
Borderless Printing
Margin
----------------------
Supply Levels
As you can see, the choices in the middle section are different, and without the text "Print Settings" I can't move onto the next stage to turn off colour managed by printer. Therefore, I'm still in the same frustrating position of hoping and praying there's a solution to this that will soon come to light.
Any further ideas and/or suggestions would be equally appreciated, thanks again!

Hi Neil and Keith,
Having done more research on the wider net and after reading tons of other questions and attempts of offer assistance (seems I'm not the only one querying this after all!), I came across this answer to someone else's question on Canon Digital Photography Forums:
“As you have just bought the system I assume you're using Mac OS 10.6.x (Snow Leopard).
In that case you don't have to do any fiddling to turn off colour management - the new Canon drivers under Snow Leopard turn off CM by default once you've chosen to let the application apply a print profile. That's why Colorsync is automatically chosen (and greyed out so you can't change it). Similarly the 'Color Options' are set to 'standard' default and greyed so you can't make any changes. As long as your media choice under "Quality and Media" is consistent with the profile, you'll get a good print.
If you choose 'printer manages' then the printer driver informs you that 'Canon Color Match' will apply. AFAIK this means that, as long as you choose a recognised Canon paper under 'Quality and Media' the driver will apply the appropriate profile under the hood. The trap is that the Color options could still be fiddled with - so is clearly not 'turned off'! In any case, this would be a poor route to take with the Red River paper because you wouldn't have the option of applying the correct profile, obviously.”
I still don't understand why my drop-down main menu in Print shows different lines of text than is showing for others (namely: “Quality & Media, Color Options, Borderless Printing, and Margins” instead of “Print Settings, Paper Configuration, and Page Layout Settings”), which I still feel a little unsettled about, but going by what this guy wrote and it appealing to my sense of logic, I'll trust that Colour Management by Printer is indeed automatically turned off whenever I choose to use a custom profile!
Thanks again for your valued input Neil and Keith. All the best :^)
P.S. I'm just about to post up another query related to Fine Art Paper printing and a new challenge I'm now experiencing; thought it better to put it in a new thread, rather than this one, in the hope that more people might see it in case neither of you are able to offer assistance this time, though of course I'll be real happy to hear from either or both of you if you do.
