I made the mistake of asking Adobe why CS5 crashes instantly whenever I go near Photomerge. They didn't have a clue.

Can anyone help me with this? I'd be grateful for a solution.

Thanks

It may be that you don't have enough RAM on your computer to manage such a large file size.

Nup - 8gb of RAM.

64 bit computer able to use all of that RAM?
How large are the files and how many? 16 bit files?
Are you using a scratch disk separate from what you have your OS and Photoshop on?
Any other apps running?

1.5mg jpegs, 8bit and two of them. It worked onc e and never worked again. There's a lot about this on the Net but no-one has a single fix..

Do you have a 64-bit OS? That shouldn't really matter though given that what you're trying to do should be trivial. Windows or Mac?

I'd try resetting all of your PS preferences by holding Ctrl+Alt+Shift when you start the program. That fixes a huge amount of weird bugs since the preferences file tends to get corrupted.

Have you tried simply uninstalling, cleaning your registry (if on Windows), running the Adobe CS cleaner tool, and re-installing?

Are they HDR images?? I had that problem with HDR and had to work around it.

Barry, your perceptions are correct. Photomerge crapped out on me from the second time out. It's not RAM related or 64-bit etc, just a bug that Adobe never deemed important enough to fix according to my research a few months ago. I ended up using an older version. The whole matter stinks. My experience is limited to OS-X.

In my attempts to cure the crashing propbelm, Adobe told me to start another admin user account. Can someone please tell me how to get rid of the second one? I'm on an i7 PC with Windows 7.

Fankyoo.
