On windows, click the Start button, go to the Startup group, right click on Adobe Gamma and delete it, then restart your machine. On Mac you don't need to worry about it.

I know this has been a topic of conversation here before but I have forgotten the reason that people like to have Adobe Gamme disabled. Does it interfere with monitor profiling or the printing process?
Leaving AdobeGamma running can adversly affect the color profile created by Colorimiters. If you are using a proper Monitor Calibration system like the Spyder or Monaco etc, then they have their own Gamma correction utilities.
I can't tell you how or if you need to diable it on a MAC, never having owned one myself. But if you are running a version Windows XP or Media. There are several ways to make sure it's not enabled.
first method:
1) Right Click START
2) Slect the option "Open All Users" by left clicking it
3) Open the "Programs" folder and navigate down to the "Startup" Folder and open it.
4) If you see it sitting there, instead of deleting it, right click the the file and use the "Rename" option to change the last three letters. The ones that are just right of the (.) dot.
5) Create a subfolder withing the "Starup" folder and call it something like "Old" and then move the Adobe Gama file to a folder that you just created.
The reason if renaming it and moving it there instead of deleting it intirely is that you can always copy it back to the original folder and use it if you have problems down the road.
Second method:
1)Left click "Start"
2) Select the "run" option and type in MSCONFIG. This will open the "System Configuration Utility" window
3)Then select the "Startup" tab. This will give you a list of programs that are configured to startup every times you boot up windows.
4)Scroll through the list and if you see Adobe Gama with a green check mark in the box to the left of the program. Uncheck it and close the "System Configuration Utility".
you will get a message that you need to reboot in order for the change to take effect. Reboot and upon signing in again you will get a message stating that changes have been made to your startup file. Just click the option to ignore or not display this message again.
Chris,
if you are serious about having the right monitor color profile, I would also suggest as others have, that you get a monitor calibrating tool such as The Pantone spyder or the Monaco Color Meter. These tools will create a more useful color profile for the specific type monitor you use. CRT or Flat panel LCD.
