Nikon D7000 300mmf4 ISO 400 1/640s at f5 monopod.

Wild goats are found in several areas in the highlands of Scotland which are thought to be ancestors of goats left after the Highland Clearances in the 1800's. There is a small group living locally and in the winter months can be seen regularly near the loch feeding on the seaweed. This is one of the group photographed today. You can get quite close to them but getting a uncluttered image of them is difficult due to the habitat which is steep ground covered with bracken and birch woodland. All C+C warmly welcomed.

Looks like an awkward customer to photograph Nick. Love to see one with blue sky behind when you get the chance

Blue sky Bob............what's that then? Very difficult to get them skylined as they are in open woodland and there are 3,000' feet mountains surrounding this area. Will keep trying though.

Something quite different Nick. I can fully appreciate the difficulties in getting a clear shot but then that is the habitat they choose to live in. I think we are becoming more and more obsessed with pristine clean backgrounds these days, so much so that we are starting to neglect these types of image. Nicely captured.

Nick

You can ask for an improved setting as some do but what's wrong with the environment as is?

I'd be proud of such an image.

Great shot of the animal in its environment, and a subject we don't see everyday.

I am of course happy with the pic in its environment  It just occured to me the the colour of the goat would look fab against a blue sky

Well caught Nick, I know to my cost just how elusive these goats are. There is a small herd here on Bute and I haven't pointed a camera at them in 6 years!
Best wishes

Lovely shot, I really like the setting, he looks purposeful! Perhaps a little off the bottom and left comp wise? Very nice shot!
