I shoot landscapes with a Canon 5DII & I've often wondered why camera makers give you a remote trigger for your camera that you cannot actuate from behind the camera. I shoot landscapes & use a remote trigger 95% of the time. For every scene I shoot, I have to haul out the remote trigger & plug it in, along with everything else. Then there's the wire dangling and fouling on the tripod as I rotate the camera around. Wouldn't it be nice if there was a built in remote you could fire from behind the camera without having to plug one in every time?

Does anyone else out there want this feature? Has anyone figured out a solution without a large remote radio trigger also having to be mounted on the hotshoe?

Well, the remote works from both front and behind on my D7000. I think that is a new feature so Nikon must have felt the same as you. BTW it is very handy for landscapes, I have use it countless times.

I use a CyberSync trigger on my D300 when I need one. It has a range of about 150 yards. This let's me shoot more than one camera at once.

I use an rf trigger I got from Adorama made by "RPS Studio" or something like that. It plugs into the side of the camera with a short wire and is about the size of a bic lighter. The actuator is even smaller and has a telescoping antenna. I can actually sit downstairs and activate it through the 2nd floor out to a balcony when it's too cold to shoot sunrises or sunsets ;-). It cost less than $100, and I've been very happy with it.

I use an "Accessory Power Professional Series CANON RS-80N3 Equivalent Wireless Remote For EOS-3, 1v HS/1v, 1D-series, 1Ds-series, 5D-series, EOS 7D 10D, 20D, 30) from Amazon for my 7D. The price was $ 25. The receiver plugs into the side of the camera and the receiver body can be mounted onto the hot shoe (cold foot). It's light enough to let it dangle if the hot shoe is needed or if want to use it as a wired remote). There are reports that the receiver can be accidentally switched on in a camera bag, thereby draining the battery. I insert a short piece of colored tape between the battery and the contact when not in use. I also like the fact that it has a true B exposure function: one push on the remote to start the exposure and a second push to end (as opposed to having to hold the camera shutter down). No complaints so far. I have it since about a year.
