I can't decide
I haven't touched my camera in way too long, but I was browsing through some of my older images. This is a shot I took last May. It wasn't what I was aiming for and passed over it. I just saw it again and can't decide if it is worth keeping and if so, how to process it. I sorta like the abstract nature of the background but is it too chaotic or distracting? Your opinions and suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

I'm liking it, Steve; the selective focus creates lots of opportunities for editing. I'd crop it square to focus in on the main daisy(?), and then play around with saturation. Or, convert to b&w and get creative. I pulled it into PS, converted to B&W adjusting color sliders during the conversion in order to get the petals to pop, added a subtle tint and thought it made for a cool abstract piece. Lots of potential here...

I like this a lot Steve. Granted it's not the classic floral portrait.....more of a floralscape. It has a lot of interest for me fg thru bg. The gray area at ULC may distrupt the flow a little but the colors are great and your processing choices are excellent. I would experiment with some crop variations. I has a lot of potential. :toast:

Taking some liberties here posting a version that appeals to me; happy to remove it if you prefer not having it posted here.

Thank you Rick and Bruce! I appreciate the feedback. Rick, thanks for the example. I have no experience with B&W conversions so your example will help me as I experiment.

Bruce, it was the color mix that I was most concerned about. I know I have an odd sense of color mix appropriateness. My wife has told me more than once "You aren't really going to wear those colors together are you?"

Thanks again guys!

You can experiment with some crops Steve, but I kinda like it as is. Different and unique. And the color palette is nice as well. And isn't that what wives/girlfriends are for?

I've made a couple of attempts at this. Here's a color version. I toned down the yellows and added blur to the background.

Comments and suggestions appreciated.

And here's a B&W version. As always, comments and suggestions appreciated.

I like the b/w. It helps us focus on the flower because the greens and yellows are not high contrast with each other as they are in the color version.

Very nice work Steve. The last 2 images are my favorites. The color version turned out very well, but I think the real star here is the b/w version. The tones in the b/w are beautiful.
