We're planning a short trip to the Smokies at the end of April. I've been there in the fall a couple of times but would appreciate any ideas regarding spring locations to shoot. I'm going to have one of my sons and three of our grandkids along so long hikes are out. I do expect I'll have sunrises to myself before the camp wakes up. Also, any advice regarding the campgrounds in the park would be appreciated. We will be in a large tent. Thanks in advance for any help. >=))>

Hey Bill
You should get plenty of info if the rest of my SENP buddies wake up and respond.

As far as camping goes you can't go wrong with the Cades Cove Campground. It may get full in late April so I would book early. The nice thing is you are right there at the Cades Cove Loop. Lots of turkey, deer, bears and other wildlife, historic cabins and barns, and some beautiful sunrises across the cove. Just up the road about 6 - 8 miles is Tremont and the Middle Prong on the Little River. That's a fantastic place for spring photography and you can drive right to most locations.

My favorite wildflower hike is Porters Creek. It's not bad hike. Even young kids can do much of it.

Check out William Britten's site - http://williambritten.com/wordpress/smoky-mountains/ for some great info.
