Fox in the snow

Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes) - Essex, UK
Canon 7D, 300/f2.8, Gitzo 3530LSV, Wimberley WH2.
Manual exposure mode f4; 1/800, iso 400.
RAW image processed in Adobe Camera Raw; sharpened in Photoshop CS5; noise reduction using Noiseware Professional Imagenomic; full frame.

Shot a couple of weeks ago when we had the snow with the the much derided 7D. Well pictures speak louder than words as they say. I rest my case.

Phil as always , and this image is no exceptions, your images are immaculate when it comes to technicalities. Can't fault them. The composition lacks from my point of view. I find the fox too central and I am not convinced about the cut off legs and tail.....but then I have no fox images what so ever!

I was in Scotland when it snowed down here, so I missed all of the action as it was warmer u[ there by a long way !

Agree re Rene re the central position, but re the legs, as it's standing in snow, the legs will be cut, so that doesn't worry me. Would love to have some Fox in snow pics !

The cut off legs do not bother me as it is in deep snow but for some reason the tail does, guess I like to see the end of its brush. Agree that it could do with a little more canvas in front of the fox but that's the downside of a prime if you are a wee bit too close. Perhaps more of a head turn would have been better? These are nits and if this was my image I would be delighted with it. The snow on the fox's nose and under its belly really add to the image and as Rene has said the image is technically perfect with exposure spot on as always. You got more snow than we did this winter.

This works for me. Dont see how you could improve the comp without changing lenses, maybe a 5d2 instead of the 7

This is an image that begs to be seen large. I can see where people are coming from with the too centre comments but . . . and I know this sounds a bit weird . . . it doesn't seem too central on the large view  Anyway, superb detail, a fine looking fox and what's that white stuff ????

7D+ISO400, sweet spot IMO. Brilliant shot, one I wish I could get close to!

Perfectly exposed as ever. Like the spec of snow on the nose - really sets off the large version for me.

Superb photo Phil. I don't think its too central and the snow on the nose is the icing on the cake for me. I'm still a little confused about the negative comments that seem to be prevalent about the 7D.... maybe people are expecting too much from a crop sensor? I'm still glad I bought mine.

Very nice image Phill

Regards 'being to central', a sliver off the top will help that as he is looking down. But IMO its alright as is!.

A super image :toast:
