Angle Finder Question

A comment I hear often about my photographs is that I should shoot from a lower angle. When it comes time to slither on your belly like a reptile, do you use something like a Canon Angle Finder, or do you just rest your chin in the dirt and shoot straight on? Have any of you used an Angle Finder or something similar? Is it a useful item for my kit or something that I would rarely use?

Thanks!

Kelly

I shoot Nikon, but for low angle stuff I use one of Nikon's Right Angle finder. I don't recall the model #, but if you shoot Canon that doesn't matter anyway. It works pretty nicely, allows me to view the entire frame, swivels for use in vert or horz format, and is definitely eaiser on the neck than laying on your belly, especially in some of the places I shoot (swamps). It's a bit of a hassle putting it on/taking it off because I have to unscrew the normal eyepeice and then screw the right angle finder on, but that's only a minor drawback.

I shoot almost all my 'camera flat on the ground' stuff with an angle finder. I find it much easier than trying to lay flat behind the camera. The exception is for belly crawling with the camera mounted on a ground plate, which I don't get a lot of opportunity to do.\

If Ed Dubois is listening, maybe he could post that pic again of me shooting ducks near Vancouver.

Kelly: I have a Minolta angle finder for my gear and, while ai don't use it a lot, it is a back saver. Minolta's also has a 2x magnification feature that you can engage to really fine tune focus. If Canon makes one with that available give it some serious consideration. >=))>

I just invested in a canon one - one of the best purchases so far! It also has a magnifier to aid focusing and actually seems brighter than the screen on the 10D. Alos useful when the camera is angled upwards.

Hi Kelly
I use one a lot too. Here's the photo of Bob using his so you can see just how low he gets  Notice that his tripod legs are spread out flat (sorry about the goose being in the way) but that Bob's still able to sit comfortably.
