Amazon & B+H Photo both show the new pricing, and even the Canon site shows the new list price at $2199. No doubt there will be deals and rebates forthcoming. That is one crazy price for a full frame sensor body. B&H has a bundle deal where you get the 5D2 and a 16-35mm/2.8 for $3,678, only $179 more than a 5D3. No brainer.

THEN, add in the current Canon rebate: buy the 5D2 with a Canon PixmaPro 9000 MKII 13x19" printer (printer costs $449.95) and get a $400 rebate, hence, printer for $49.95.

5D2/16-35/PixmaPro 9000 = $3,728

5D3 = $3,499

Good time to go shopping!

What's driving me crazy now is how to get a 5D Mark III by trading in my 5D Mark II + some cash (as little of the latter as possible).

who would give me the best deal?

Anyone have any thoughts on this? I can't be the ONLY member who wants to trade up.

Mark, you're going to get hammered if you do a trade-up with a dealer, and no one has a 5D3 yet to personally trade (obviously, lol). Honestly, your best bet may be to sell it outright. The down side is having no camera for a short time. I did exactly that in Sept 2008: when that 5D2 was announced, I knew I had to move my original 5D immediately or it would lose resale value in a hurry. I posted the ad on eBay that same week, and did sell that original 5D for $1750, seriously. If it's in great condition and you have all of the original materials/box/etc, you'll find the buyer. Another avenue is selling it used on Amazon. I sell stuff there all the time, just sold my 64gb iPad this morning. Either avenue will cost you about 10% of the selling price for fees, but it gets you exposure to 200 million people (Amazon is a little cheaper then the eBay/PayPal fees, and you don;t have to take pictures of the item). Right now, some folks have 5D2's listed for $1800 and up, FYI. Maybe not the answer you were looking for, but it's one option.

Back when I sold the 5D, I went without a camera body for weeks and it drove me batty. I picked up a Canon 10D cheap on eBay, then sold it once I got the 5D2. But the one advantage you have is that the 5D2 will pretty much hold its used value for a while, you don't necessarily need to sell it today.

BTW, you'll want to nab your 5D3 the moment it hits B&H/Amazon/wherever, because they will probably go out of stock in a hurry with each shipment the stores get. This website will tell you when the camera is available.
