I am a little confused by LR4. When I update to current process (2012) it changes the look of my image, it seems more contrasty. I really do not want to re edit my entire archives. Any ideas why it is doing this? I had noticed this on the Beta too which is why I stopped using it.
When I go back and forth between the changes both the histogram and tonal curve change.
Your last sentence indicates that perhaps some sort of automatic application of tonal changes is occurring (?).

I would not let LR change old photos to 2012 space, only new stuff. When you open old LR photos you may have to tell it not to use 2012. I don't know if there is a preference setting for that or not. You will LOVE the way the new sliders work in this app.

I have been playing with it and am getting improved results, but it'll be a lot of work considering I have just completed 2 years of editing this week ready to update the website! Guess I'll just re touch my main pieces. Why can't they update software before the long winter of editing?!!

David, Look up any articles by Julianne Kost on migrating..if she has any. Might save you some headaches.

Your only solution for now may be to open the old file and then in the develop module, click on the 2010 version. Hopefully that will bring it up the way it was before. I can't find any articles on a workaround.
If you change to the current process, there will be changes in the apperance of your file.
That is why they have different "processes" for the last 2 releases, and the catalog upgrade default is to keep the old process.
Unless you need to apply some of the new features, do NOT change the process version
However, there is a rather nasty bug reported in the catalog upgrade. Apparently LR4 WILL RESET ALL YOUR TONE CURVES TO A DEFAULT!
This occurs even with the process version kept at 2010 !!
So, if you made changes via tone cures, kiss them goodbye!!
I rarely made adjustments in LR using tone curves, so I haven't encountered this issue.
But, even though it is not a problem for me, I certainly wonder what other bugs are lurking!?
Be sure to keep your old catalog around until they work this out.
The Beta didn't allow catalog upgrades, so only their own internal testing could have caught it.
I plan to hold off on doing too much new work in LR4, just in case a complete new catalog upgrade is needed.

Thanks Bill, good response. I came to the same conclusion, leave the 2010 until I get to try and re edit, then keep the best. Thanks
