A quick update on the progress of the season along the American River Parkway east of Sacramento. A few poppies out. Small groups and singles but no masses of flowers yet. Poison oak leafing out. Pipevine butterflies out the past few days. Lizard activity on the warmer days and even a report of a rattlesnake out and about. Calif. buckeye started pushing its leaves out all week. Lots of cherry trees, etc. in blossom. Weather for next week looks pretty rainy here. Probably lots of snow in the mountains, so you guys looking for some winter landscape opportunities may be in luck. The NWS was predicting yesterday 3-6" of rain in the Sac. Valley and many feet of snow in the mountains. 6" would double the rainfall we have here to date. We'll see how it pans out.

I have been hearing, but not seeing cranes along the Lake Natoma area. We also watched an otter feeding just below Nimbus Dam last week, along with a few mergansers there. Saw two red shouldered hawks below along the way, and a peregrine falcon just below Hazel Avenue.

Today we found about six turtles in the Sacramento Bar area.

Could not ask for a nicer day, or area to walk this time of year!
