Hi there,

I and a photographer friend from Dallas (I live in Redmon, WA) are planning to go to northern Oregon in two weeks, for 4 days. We definitely want to shoot the painted hills section of the John Day fossil beds. Do you know if there are any wildflowers yet? And what are the good vantage points there?

Also, we are not sure what else to put on our itinerary that's in the general area. I've been thinking about Smith's Rock, and various falls and other things on the Columbia gorge. Any hints for us? Also, am I right to assume that Ramona Falls and the lakes around Mt Hood are still under feet of snow?

Thanks and kind regards,
Inge Johnsson

I've just called the caretakers at the painted hills a few hours ago...not heard back yet, but will post when I do.
Ramona Falls Trail is still closed...at least until the end of May I believe until they put in the foot bridge across the river.

If you're willing to drive to Painted Hills, consider hitting Smith Rock State Park on your way. It's just a few miles east of Redmond, and a stunning sunrise location; at least IMHO
