Met up with Paul D this morning for a sunrise shoot near where he captured this month's cover image. I would never be able to duplicate such a sterling image but did get some stuff I like. This is a quick edit on the laptop. Thanks, Paul, for sharing this location.

Nice photo Bill!
As you no doubt have seen, there isn't much in the way of wildflowers in the Phoenix area, although today we drove out to Globe and things are a little better on the way out there.
With the bad weather predicted for this weekend (that I'll have to drive through...ugh) any dormant wildflowers may pop-up for you. Good luck!

Bill, those teddy bear cholla make nice back-lighting subjects. This image reminds me of a few too-close encounters last weekend. Hopefully none jumped out and stuck to you.
Doug, thankfully none of them went into "launch" mode. I've been out before and come back with a bunch of spiny golf balls stuck to me and my backpack.
Bob, drive safely. I was out this morning and there were a few wisps of clouds. Might post something later.
Cholla indeed make great images when backlight ! But no matter how great the image, memories of my college days at ASU come flooding back. While conducting some vegetation transects south of Phoenix, I had the unfortunate experience of falling backwards on a teddy bear cholla. I understand they appear soft and teddy bear-like, but I guarantee, you'll have a whole new appreciation of the plant when someone is pulling spines out of your backside. As I recall, none of the guy classmates wanted anything to do with that removal chore.Thank goodness I had some good-hearted female classmates that were up to the challenge
Real nice lighting!
Kinda wished you hadn't have clipped the foreground cholla and the one on the left, though.

Like that rim light. Nice detail in the shadows as well.

Bill, nice meeting my first NPN'er in person! I've had several nice conversations with Joe Paratore and even built him a PC for editing, but you're the first face to face. Glad that worked out! I notice that you didn't mention that the whole event lasted 20 minutes, lol (I met Bill at the spot, shot the sunrise when it popped up, then left him standing there as I scooted off to work). But watching you switch to close-up mode as I was leaving was defnitely inspiring, I always show up there and set the lens in ultra-wide mode and inhale the scene before me... as you can see by the one passable shot I got, there's definitely detail there at that location that screams to be explored. I'm not that fond of this image I got because there's a bit too much open dead space, and there doesn't seem to be a point to the composition. Remember I said I wanted to get that clump of dead muck in my foreground to see how it works? Well, it DOESN'T, lol! So based on your post, I'll get back there and look a bit closer at stuff.
