Trees
Hey folks,
After a little absence I am back as a NPN member thanks to John Williams pointing out an oversight to Jim E. So now I'm a lifetime member and I hope to contribute to the forum as a member.
This shot was taken of an odd patch of trees a month ago in eastern Oregon. I worked this area for about 20 minutes but I could have easily spent hours. Nikon D7000, 18-200 VRII, 52mm, f6.3 at 1/6th of a second ISO 100.

Hey, Erik! So nice to see you back!!

Good detail in this image. Even though it is uniformly gray, it still captivates the viewer with the overall mood. This almost looks like a planted crop of trees… all of a similar size and pattern on the bark. I find that interesting.

Looking forward to seeing more of your images and comments. Welcome back!!

I echo Catherine's comments and the lack of any sharp contrast serves the mood well in this one. Nice comp too. :toast:

Erik, this is the 3rd time I've looked at this, their is something captured that keeps calling. Each time at first glance, I am a tad "let down" by the overall BW toned down feel. A longer inspection, for me, finds an attraction to the repeated format and structure of the trees, which is so strong, that it draws the viewers attention from the somewhat drab colorless original impression to a level of appreciation for the strong composition. very wordy for "I like it!" :toast:

I think the strong repeating lines and patterns are very eye catching Erik. I do think just a tad more contrast (not much) would make those qualities stand out more. Very well seen!

Thanks folks for the comments. I processed this on my laptop and when I looked at it on my work computer, it did look a tad dark and flat. I was going for a slightly dark and low contrast feel on this particular image. I think maybe I had better stick to my calibrated desktop computer when I process images. Just a slight angle change on the screen of the laptop makes a huge difference when it comes to brightness of the image.

Erik, the symmetry works very nice here. Great job!

Great patterns in this Erik. Of course the trees are obvious, but I really like the contrasting bark texture low/high on the trunks. Great choice to go BW and let the patterns dominate.
