Taken on one of the worst days of last month I have ever encountered, the rain was torrential, bitterly cold winds and after 4 hours everything was saturated in rain, but the gear kept working, a testimony to the build of Canon's gear. This was one from the first shoot. The OOF strands that run vertically in front of the log are blades of dry grass. Mid morning approx 11.33am. I wanted enough slow SS to catch the rain in the BKG to add more interest to the image and convey the conditions.

Hi Steve, long time no see on here. You have really caught the misery that wet owls must feel in the rain. The rain streaks captured just right as well. My only nit would be the unattractive perch but heh, I'd be happy with it.

Hello Steve.
Love the feeling to this and I love rain shots, but what I really like is the way the rain is coming down at the same angle as the owl.
Thanks guys, I promise not to deluge you with this bird, but perhaps 'pepper' when I can, in between other postings on here.
Rob you asked a question a while back on a previous posting about coming back, plus I received some PM's, however I was too busy to answer them at that time and this is the first opportunity to post back on here.
Re the 'perch', well the location is set around a massive trail dyke where these birds congregate, sitting, roosting on the huge drift wood brought up by the sea and then quartering around the grassland, boggy areas, so it's real, however it also creates awkward areas to the BKG too, so you have to work around a lot of issues, not like doing BOAS, LOL. Hope to do the SEO and Hen/Marsh harriers there too next year. You would not believe how close those birds come in, more wide angle rather than long lenses.
Thanks again.
Steve

I think Snowys look much better in an overcast light and this one looks stunning with a gorgeous yellow eye. The climate in BC is supposed to be like the west coast of Scotland so I fully empathise with the miserable look and the rain!
