All, one of the areas I was hoping we could work on as a group was to promote not only CSNP but the the central states region too. We have a huge variety of environments in our region and we stretch from Canada to Mexico. I think by area we are the largest of the NPN regional groups.
I'd like to see what we can do to showcase the amazing scenery, flora, and fauna of our region.
To that end I'd like to encourage everyone to post images on a regular basis to the forum. No matter if it is from a trip to a national park, or a morning in your home town. Let's see what folks are doing! We have some folks who already do that, but I'd like to see of others even if you have not posted before to take part. We are a friendly bunch and the show and tell way we can share our work is rewarding.
It was posted that someone was not from our region but frequented our forum. I think the more active we become the more we will see visitors from the other areas of NPN. We have the chance to not only be a great source of images and info on our region, we have the chance to be known as a source for simply great photography.
Along with that, anyone feel up to the task of maybe writing an article on someplace they photograph? A few years ago I did articles here on NPN covering, Big Bend NP, Guadalupe Mountains NP, the Wichita Mountains in Oklahoma, and the Upper Mississippi River. Here is one as an example
I know there is the talent here in the group and I know folks go to to neat areas. I'd like to challenge folks to offering up articles on spots here in the Central States. It could be a region, a park, or similar. NO, not to give away a secret location but this could be a chance for both self and regional promotion.
Think about it this way, we are photo experts in our region. Doing things like this can be great promotion for you as a photographer with a chance show some of your work and placed in context to a location you are an expert in.
If you would be willing to write and article and provide a few images to go with it, I bet we could get Jim and Richard to use it here on NPN. Even if we just got 3-4 articles a year, it would create a regular stream on information about us to the NPN general audience as well as visitors.
I believe that the more we can do things like this, the more we can increase activity in the region and the forum.

Great ideas and a wonderful challenge for the group. I'd love to see this forum regain the momentum we had previously because there are many talented photographers here. I'm looking forward to having you in the moderator's role Darren. I'll see what I can do to step up my participation. Thanks!

Thanks, Wayne.
As Tom commented on with one of your posts from western Kansas "you are showing off some of the good stuff in Kansas". I think that is exactly the sort of thing we need to do-show off our region.
There are some incredible sights on the Great Plains and Ozarks and the more we can show them the better.
I love going out to the national parks in the Rockies, but I'd put Big Bend and Guadalupe Mountains up against them. Amazing scenery with 10% or less of the crowd. Example the Flickr group for Guadalupe Mountains has less than 60 members and less than 600 images in it. To compare the Yosemite Flickr group has 5000 members and close to 30,000 images.
For many folks on the south plains it will be a much shorter drive to the Guads than Yellowstone or Grand Canyon.
I'd like to highlight that park and other places I know for folks. After all do we need another shot at Maroon Bells? Please note it is an example and I am not hating on Maroon Bells-I have been there too. In the Guads you can literally have to yourself. It is a n experience like John Muir would have had.
Multiply that across 8 states and thousands of miles and I think we have something. I doubt you will see people from NYC flock to the Wichita Mountains in Oklahoma, but I think it is a great destination for folks in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, etc.
Let's showcase our cool stuff: national parks (can anyone highlight Teddy Roosevelt NP?), wildlife refuges, state parks, regions, roads (Talimena or Route 66 anyone?), etc.

I second this idea. i usually stay pretty close to home which is Nacogdoches, TX. and we have some beautiful areas here in the piney woods. I will try to do my part to help by posting images of and writing about my area as well as other areas I frequent.

Gary, just saw your post. Nacogdoches is a great area for pines plus the lakes near there. Love to see what you get.

I know sever memory is probably an issue but the small size is wasted; the larger size is the only one worth submitting.
Why do we have two?
