From the "open" command on the file dropdown menu, when I click on a file before opening it, there is no thumbnail preview. I have always had one in all previous versions. Not in CS6. Anyone else notice this? It may be a setting on my laptop (lots of new learning curve, here, as I am using Win7 as a new user). I confirmed that the thumbs are there in CS5 still.

Raw files? Jpegs? Which camera?

Keith: Sorry for the "lapse." Meant to say that these are raw files (converted to Adobe dng from Canon raw and Nikon NEF files).

I'm assuming you have CS5 installed as well? If so, when you perform an open from CS5 and point to the same directory, do you see thumbnails appear then? I'm guessing you won't. If you don't, then it is not an issue with Photoshop, rather an issue with Windows 7 not knowing how to render the thumbnails.

I have CS5 (64-bit) and Windows 7 Pro SP1 (64-bit) is set to show thumbnails. In PS, when I go to File>Open and choose a folder with PSD and NEF files, there is no thumbnail image, only an icon for these file types. Thumbs for Tiff, and Jpeg show up just fine. Therefore, I think this is a Windows thing in that this OS does not natively have a converter for Camera RAW or PSD files.

That's interesting, Andy. Honestly, I really don't need to see them because I open images in Photoshop from my DAM program IdImager, which does show thumbs for all file types. All the same, I might poke around in my Windows settings just for fun to see if I can get them to show.

I have CS5 and don't see thumbnails for PSDs. Weird. I DO use FastPictureViewer which is a codec that allows me to view my raw CR2 files in Explorer and dialog boxes in Win 7 64bit, but I don't see PSDs, and the funny thing is, I thought I remember being able to do that. I've been on Win 7 since the beta release 3 years ago, so I'm confused as to why I lost my thumbs in the past year or so.

I wonder if some Adobe update broke something.... will need to investigate that. The fact that Andy can see CS5 thumbs but not CS6 screams of a needed codec, not anything intrinsically wrong with Win 7 I would think...
