Spring at last!
Nikon D7000 300mm f4 ISO 800 1/4000s at f5.6 handheld

Out for a walk through some local woods to check on a badger sett and came across this Peacock butterfly enjoying the unseasonal hot weather on a log. It is a little tatty but its colours have lasted quite well over the winter months. All C+C warmly welcomed.

Nick, thanks for commenting on my image. Reciprocity is a good thing!
Lovely image of this beautiful butterfly, spring seems really upon us. Great stuff!

Is it just me or has the lack of shadow given a surreal look? Very well spotted, none flying here yet despite my sunburned face :o

Lovely image with great detail but I agree with Neil. I don't know what it is, but it has indeed a surreal look. :wavey:

Excellent large image. There were two chasing each other in my front garden this morning, couldn't get a photo though. :frown:

Nice image - great colours for an animal that has overwintered; they tend to be washed out and a bit shredded.

Nice

Its certainly a topsy turvy spring, we have snakeshead fratillaries in flower with snowdrops in the garden at present - thats at least 3 weeks early

Lighting looks well controlled on this one, and taken with a 300f4, my macro lens of choice for butterflies and dragons. Good work, Nick.
