Merganser
Nikon D7000 300mmf4 + TC-17e IO 800 1/3200s at f8.

Taken today on the coast. Came across this lovely Merganser very close to the shore and managed to stalk quite close. All C+C warmly welcomed and many thanks for your comments on my last post.

A difficult subject to get close to in my experience Nick. A lower POV would have been ideal, but you get what you can given the circumstances.

Hi Nick, lucky to get a shot like this with such a bird so congrats on that. Perhaps a lower angle might have been better, but having the nice backdrop of the water works well to frame it. The larger version is certainly a plus point to appreciate the image.

Personally I find it a little lost in frame and perhaps (if IQ allows) a vertical crop might also work as an alternative. I tried it on 666 x 472 and it's not that tight and gives more detail to the viewer. Again, just m take.

Agree a lower angle would have been better, but still a lovely shot :toast: :toast:

Angles can be overrated, and somewhat common ;) I like this, simple and spacious.

A lovely crisp shot, of what most of us consider a very difficult species.

Good looking shot, Nick. This is a species I have no luck with, as soon as I break that 100yd barrier off they pop, so congrats on the capture.
