Castle Rocks & Yucca
I made this sunset image of some of the Castle Rocks chalk formations in western Kansas on Monday March 12th as Scott Bean and I were waiting to photograph the planetary conjunction of Venus & Jupiter in the night sky. Have a great weekend everyone.

The more you show of western Kansas the more I am ready to drive across the Great Plains.

Thanks Darren. I was totally taken aback by these specific formations, I had no idea how much there would be to explore in this one location. What was interesting to me is that these chalk formations are all over the place out there but virtually all the land is privately owned so access to most of them isn't possible unless you get permission.

However the landowner of the "Castle Rocks" area allows people to access the formations on his property anytime. :jump:

The larger version really pops. I like the winter grass with the splash of green. the winter grass carries the color from the chalk bluffs into the foreground.
I need to get out there some day and night.
How did you do on the Moon, Venus, Jupiter stuff?

Wayne, It looks like you had a productive trip to western Kansas. I've also been enjoying your shots and getting inspired to head that direction again.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks guys. Larry, I did get a couple of shots of the planteary conjunction of Venus & Jupiter hanging low over the chalk formations that I like. I'd never done that type of photography before so it was nice to have Scott Bean along to give me some pointers. I'll share one or two of those images in the coming days.

Your trip out there has produced some fine images, Wayne. I look forward to seeing your conjunction photos. I can't wait to make my own trip out there the first weekend of May.
