Red Grouse

One from the same session as the Meadow Pipit in my last post.

1/1250th @ f8 -2/3rds iso400 ( 95% of FF )

Please view the large version.

Thanks for the feedback on my Meadow Pipit shot and thanks for looking.

There are a selection of other shots from that morning on the blog, including a Little Owl that I should have nailed, but once again my 7D let me down

Lovely grouse shot, Andy. It does look a little on the dark side, but that could well be my uncalibrated work monitor.

Looks fine to me, an excellent 2D portrait.

Looks good to me. Excellent BG and the little splash of amber on the rock sets it off nicely

Surely a good late model MK3 is a better bet than the 7d which is not fit for purpose believe me I have tried two :frown:

Cheers guys

Hi Bob, I had my MK3 next to me on the passenger seat, I was just about to change to it when the Little Owl took flight :frown: . I doubled up on this shot and used both the 7D and the MK3.

Sweet image Andy, great detail on the head. That OOF rock came in handy again for your name.

Great viewpoint, perch, background and pose Andy. Perhaps a little lightening of the birds back? Lovely shot with lovely lighting on the neck/head area and a good catchlight.
I haven't been able to afford a 1 series camera since the EOS1n so cannot compare, but I have found the 7D to be an excellent performer.

Lovely image Andy - the BG is really nice especially.

Suggestion re comp - I might have gone for slightly less canvas on the RHS and more on the LHS to accentuate the space for the bird to look into, and a little more on top if you have the canvas. Just my 2p worth of course :wavey: :toast: :toast:

edit - having looked at your blog, image 3 is the one for me Andy. Re the 7D issue, my MKIII sometimes did the same in high contrast situations. I put that down to user error, but then my MKIV hasn't missed a beat yet in similar circumstances......

Wow...that was the first thing that came to mind..
Perhaps lighten up the darker parts a tad but other then that it's stunning!

Maybe a tiny bit dark but no big deal at all.
Fine image and my favourite bird pose (look back from behind )

A touch dark yes, that is easy to solve but great pose with just the right head turn...
