Hi, all!
April showers and flowers are here! Soon the Tulip fields in our region will be bursting into bloom. So, here's the deal:
Since the March roundtable never happened ( my bad! ), I propose a regional challenge, especially to our flower enthusiasts, and most especially to our flower non-shooters. For the month of April, TULIPS are THE subject! Let's get out to our OR and WA tulip farms and shoot away. We'll post images all in one thread, which I will start and post in the sticky section. At the end of the month John and I will pick "best north," "best south," and "best overall" tulip images. Each category may contain more than one pick. And John and I get to throw our photos in the mix too. (I am making up the rules as I write this... )
Here's the key to the fun: Let's have these be Outings, where people going to the farms and fields post their meet-up time and place for other members to join in! PNothing formal, it's no-host and just a way of getting out to shoot with old and new friends. The Events header will soon be changed to Outings. Post your info there! ( As well as for any other place you are going to shoot, where it's okay if other members join you.) Time to get the Outings going folks!
Hey, Ned! Where do we meet you?? I'd like to join you!
Anyone from the north want to join in and maybe carpool/share gas??

I'd like to go to the Woodland fields. Caveat is that they are smaller than in Oregon - but they have a nice display area and I typically shoot intimate shots rather than sweeping fields. We could meet right off the exit in Woodland. I'll stop out there this weekend to see how they are coming along. From there I am open the 21st, 22nd and 23rd to go shoot there before I leave for Las Vegas on the 24th.

On Sunday (the 22nd) in the afternoon/evening, I plan on meeting Catherine in Woodland to shoot tulips at the festival. On Monday, (23rd), we plan to shoot at Woodburn, Oregon. If anyone is interested in joining the group. please feel free to join us. Leave a message here or email me for my phone number.
Here's Ned gettin' into his subject at Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival. We had a great time.
See the "Outing Report" in the regular posting section for more details and more pics!

Catherine,
I realize that you are in Seattle so this may not work for you. In Portland we have a wonderful Nature Conservancy area called Camassia Natural Area in West Linn Oregon. The Camas Lily there are in their prime. They photograph best in diffused light such as overcast and best with misty, foggy light. I will be there tomorrow morning. The Camas Lily will last maybe two or three more days before they start to die off. You will be able to recognize me as the guy with the black hat and no eyebrows or eyelashes, courtesy of 15 months of Chemo. Also, there are Camas Lily's blooming at Bridal Veil Falls State Park on the overlook trail. And it looks like the new week will be a great time to photography the flowers along the Dalles Mountain Road.
