Green Woodpeckers.
More for interest really. I have been trying for years to get Greens on ant hills actually digging. After 50 odd years it happens "
Through my office window in drizzle this lunch time.
And to top it all both birds. !! They are hole digging not far off.
I have just been out and measured it and they were 47 yards away.
Not very exotic and not real exiting and not a prize winner but it'll do me for a while

Have a look at the larger version-mnot as bad as the little un !!
Congrats on the capture, JR. GW has to be one the most difficult to photograph species we have in the UK and I'd be well pleased with this. Also love how it shows the identification feature between the male and female.

Patience well rewarded, John. Congratulations on a great capture even if it is SIF.

Might try using the car as a hide. The sheep fence is the problem(and people)
Still pleased considering the distance. Couple of blow ups here

Great shots JR...looks like you have a rabbit infestation too judging by the amount of poo!

Very nice John. These are amazing birds. Good to see them chasing ants, pity about the rabbit currants!!
I always find your images so difficult to comment on. Every one is a top quality image without exception. Now with this effort which you under rate demonstrates your skills and Male and Female to boot.
Thanks all.
Barry - Praise indeed ! I was just about to switch off and head for bed.
I have to say most of my work is common every day species - often bird on a twig or pool stuff. I have no choice really - I can't get around like I could and I can't really afford or manage to travel like I used to.
Most of my european travel was done pre digital days and we all look at those trannies now and say- crikey what rubbish !!.
To be honest photography now a days in the digital era is open to all. Its sounds corny but as you get older its not the actual photography that is difficult- it's the motivation, to get off your backside and do it !!!
Any way it is pleasing to know that my simple home grown common stuff gets a comment or two .
Thanks.
JR
I would be very pleased with this capture. Difficult species to photograph, but you did very well. Great image.

One of my bogey birds, as some may remember from my very early postings. To get behavioural shots of a pair together - I only know one man who can do that!

Nothing simple, home grown or common about these shots JR - just great images of a bird that is difficult to photograph. 50 years is a long wait - think I might have given up by then!!
