Great Horned Owlet and Video
I know I just posted a couple of days ago but I thought I would share a still and link to a video of one of this years first Great Horned Owlets making his/her debut appearance. Shot at Ridgefield this is at least the second year the adults used this nest in the top of a decaying tree. If memory serves me correctly I think the adults were first spotted on the nest incubating the eggs about the 7th of Feb and average hatch time is 26-30 days. That would make these owlets (I have seen 2 and their may be a 3rd,) approximately 5 weeks old. I shot this yesterday and it was the first time to not have an adult on the nest with the owlets. They apparently decided the "kids" could get by for a few hours unsupervised while they slept, or they just needed a break!
I have used my canon 7D for over 2 years and this is the first time I have tried using the video function (no use learning everything all at once .)
I put together a short 2 minute video and decided to post it on my website. Zenfolio is my web hosting company and they made the posting of videos to member sites available recently. It's a bit shaky as you still have to remain in your car at Ridgefield till May 1 and so using a tripod was not an option. If your interested in viewing the video, go to my website from the link below and look for "VIDEOS" on the menu to the right of the slideshow. OR copy and send this link -

Our weathers improving finally, "Happy Shooting!"

Way cool shot, Craig. The company IT Nazis won't let me look at your video, but I'll check it out from home. :toast:
