Wagtail on woodchips
D7000 500mm f4 ISO 400 1/3200s at f8 beanbag on car window

Pied wagtail sat on a pile of wood chips. All C+C warmly welcomed.

They may be common, but they certainly ain't easy. A great shot nick, although I might tone down the forehead just a smidgin more.

Excellent detail in the large image. I like the slightly scruffy look to the subject.

JR.....this was a huge pile of chips (1.5m high or so) near a farm and the waggy was perched on it looking for grubs I guess and was happy to pose for me. No idea what the chips are for. :confused

Good DOF and BG Nick and plenty of detail too :toast: :toast:

Nick, the wood chips add interest and a nice departure from what we normally see. The BKG works well to separate the subject and is sympathetic with the tones of the wood chips. Whites looks good, likewise the detail, but wonder if the FP is not quite on the eye, as the wispy plumage look sharper?

Personally I might look at just opening the darks of the bill up, just a fraction, and either tone down the single wood chip right on the RH edge, or crop it out.

I like it Nick. The chips compliment that beautifully smooth background and the pose onthe bird is excellent.

Nice one, I am guessing you are getting used to a new lens....? I like the pose and the composition is just right, blacks may need just a tad opening up but it ain't much... I would perhaps cut back a shade on the sharpening... be interested in hearing your sharpening routine...

I like this Nick, particularly the background colours and how they complement the foreground. Maybe a touch oversharpened?
