Great pose Paul... is this a large crop? Definately an over processed look here, over sharpened yet still a softish main subject and a lot of sharpened noise (I don't normally worry about noise, we never used to worry about film grain)....

How about smaller in the frame with room for the subject to look/move into, hold back on the sharpening, or maybe apply the sharpening a bit more selectively...

Hope that does not come across too negative, I do think that with care in the processing there is potential for a good image here.... Less is more...

it's a great looking bird and mid-call too, but I have to agree with Phil on the processing. The image definitely has potential.

Agree with Matt here Paul, it is a great looking bird, but I feel it has been lightened quite a bit, hence the noise coming through in the body and therefore lacks the depth you would normally expect to see. Also if you have lightened it, it has effected the whites in the tail, as there is no tone or detail from what I can see in the posted size. Would be good to know the techs, what you did to the image in processing, plus, FYI the image is RGB and has no colour profile for sRGB.

I would end with echoing Phil & Matts closing words.

Well I hope the repost is somewhat better...

It's lost a lot of punch and the detail, although the noise is reduced slightly, the colour I feel perhaps should be somewhere between the two. Is this FF, if not how much of a crop is it? Any chance of the EXIF data please Paul?
