Lady Slipper
Got a chance to capture a Lady Slipper for the first time last weekend. Dottie promised Rod and I that she knew where to find the elusive Lady Slippers and she took us right to the spot. Thanks Dottie!

Does the natural background make this image too busy? I do have several version with a black background also. I am just interested which one is preferred?

We had planned to do an overnight trip on the Buffalo River but when we got up Saturday morning, the winds were howling and there were high wind warnings for the lakes and rivers with gusts to 40 miles per hour. The group decided it would not be fun to fight this head wind for the next two days, so we went to plan B and tried to make lemonade out of lemons.

We had a great weekend chasing wildflowers, stars and nightscapes in downtown Jasper.

Thanks Rod, for letting us stay at your beautiful cabin.

Getting the elusive Lady Slipper made my weekend.

I think the BG is fine, Tom. I've always found wildflowers like this hard to compose because of a busy background, but this seems to work OK. Black sometimes looks too unnatural to me, but sure does wonders for cleaning things up.

Yep, the wind would have made paddling on the river quite a workout. But it looks like you made some good lemonade anyway. Nothing beats spending some time photographing and admiring a few Lady Slippers!

These little gems are so cool, I got to experience my first ones (ever!) last weekend. Great job on the capture Tom I can relate to the background, personally I have always seemed to prefer the natural look but I too have a couple of shots done both ways and the black background really does make the subjects standout so like many things I shot I can go both ways with it. Fine job non-the-less.

I like it Tom, a beautiful specimen shown in its natural environment.

The natural background doesn't bother me at all, in fact I don't care so much for seeing so many "nature" images that look like studio shots.

What an amazing flower! it must be quite a sight to see one in person.
