Marsh Harrier
Thanks for the comments on my last image. This was also taken at Minsmere, from the Island Mere hide early morning. I had made the considerable effort (for me!) to get up so I could get to the reserve for dawn in the hope that I could get some more shots of the Bittern, but it didn't appear, so I concentrated on the Marsh Harriers that were flying over the reedbed. Because they rarely strayed close to the hide, I tried to get some images of them and the landscape.

Techs:
Nikon D300s
Nikon 200-400mm f4 VR
Tripod
F5.6
1/250s
ISO 800

Please view large; thanks for looking

Lovely image Oscar, the 'layers' really draw your eye in and as you say to needs to be viewed larger... nits, I am not too fond of the '10x8' crop, but that is really a personal thing... I do think that a little bit of selective contrast increase of the bird alone will help it stand out even more but that is so minor it hardly counts as a nit....

Oscar, I like the habitat/environment look & feel, but would reduce the blue in the misty BKG to a more cooler grey to give it that raw, bleak, damp, early morning feel.

Thanks Phil, I cropped it like that to show the oof band of reeds at the front, and I wanted to make sure that I kept enough space at the top. I don't have any more space on the left, and I thought that if I had left more space on the right, the bird would have been too central. If I had more space on the left then I would use it though.

Very atmospheric shot Oscar. Perhaps reduce the blue as Steve has suggested?

Agree on the comments concerning the blue tone but other then that this is very atmospheric and a wonderful bird in landscape shot.

Works for me Oscar

Maybe tone the blue down as suggested

Has a great early morning feel to it. I think I side with the majority on reducing the blue a bit.

Thanks for your comments. I am not sure about toning down the blue sky as it is the mist which is causing the colour I think, and so I would have to tone down all of the mist. Would this still be worth doing?

An excellent piece of work, Oscar. This type of photography really appeals to me, small in frame is a winner as far as I'm concerned.
