Recently had to buy a new computer with Windows 7. Instead of the old Windows Photo Gallery program, which I have used for years it came with a new Windows Live Photo Gallery, at least new for me. I cannot figure out how to move images from one location to another. I used Photo Gallery as my first editing program and then moved the photos I was keeping into the appropriate folder. So, far I have not been able to figure out how to do this with the new program. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.
Well John, I do not use Windows Photo Gallery, but I never allow any software to determine where it will place any file unless I can make that determination myself. After that, I manage all my files by using Windows Explorer and dragging them from one folder to any other that I wish. You access WE by right clicking on the Start button located at the bottom left in Windows 7 and then click Open Windows Explorer. I must be a control freak!

John - Are you just trying to move files around? Or are you using some other capability of Windows Photo Gallery?

Hi John - I happen to have both Windows Photo Gallery (WPG) and Windows Live Photo Gallery (WLPG) installed... although on Vista, rather than Windows7, so I'm not sure if there are differences. In any case...
1) What I see as far as file organization in both is pretty similar. They each have a section along the left side showing some folders from the "user" area... I keep my photos in the default "Pictures" folder there, so they show up in the tool. You can add other folders outside the default location by right clicking "folders" and selecting "add folder to gallery".
2) The adjustments available in WLPG have been changed from WPG in what you'll probably find is a negative way. They "simplified" it to a small range of presets, or an auto-fix option. There don't seem to be sliders anymore to make finer adjustments.
Personally, both of those things above are deal-breakers for me. PSE9 (which you mentioned you had in your message) is a much better tool for image editing and file management in every way. Yes, it is a bit more complicated because of the wealth of options in it; But you don't have to use those options, and can keep a very simple flow.
As far as file organization, WPG doesn't seem to be doing anything but showing you particular directories on you computer. Take a look at Windows Explorer (which is Windows general file manager) as Walt suggested, and see if that makes sense. I don't know how you store your files, but you should be able to find the same folders you see in WPG.
If there's anything in particular that you still want to do in WLPG and can't figure out, let us know. Or if there's something you want to do in PSE9 that you used to do in WLPG, and can't figure it out, let us know. We'll need details like "i used to click on this, and then select that, and drag this over here", etc.
Finally, there are many how-to books out there on using PSE that might be very beneficial for you... and there are a lot of free websites and videos too. I'm sorry, but I don't have any to recommend, but maybe someone else can. (In fact, if you are interested in that, it might make a good additional forum topic.)
Here is a great program program for managing your images. It's called IDImager. I've been using it for a couple of years and have found it to be at the top of the heap of the DAM apps.
With this program you can import from camera, move images around, batch rename, create labels, edit metadata, create 'versions', and do simple editing. This is a very abridged list of the things you can do with the program.
I do all my editing in PhotoShop, but I use IDI for all my other image management. Highly recommended.
There is a free trial. You can get it Here--IDImager. I suggest you get the Pro-SL version. There is also an active support forum: Here
I bring all this up because IDI offers much more than the MS products.
