I'm a Balanced Rock fan. Regardless of it's popularity I find its composition to be simple, yet effective, especially when there's some clouds to fill in the negative space. However I'm interested in your thoughts about the composition and my square crop.
On this evening, last second Gap Light was optimal which allowed the rock to glow while the background stayed in the shadows. The light was also enhanced with a completely overcast sky, with just the right amount of a few highlighted whispy clouds blowing by.
Thanks,
Kane

I love the gap lighting, and the square composition works well.
Erik's right about the cold/warm contrast being very effective. I also like the intense colors. A gorgeous take on Balanced Rock, Kane!

I love it. I am a fan, also, and your image shows all that is wonderful about Arches...the colors of the rock, the mountains in the distance and the beautiful light.
Well I just realized that those are not whispy clouds floating by but rather the first pieces of sky showing from the darker surrounding clouds beginning to break down after the storm. That one plays tricks on my eye.

Love the telephoto perspective and the contrasting and rich colors. And that sky!
