Chase County Lake Waterfall - Kansas
Last Sunday, on a windy and warm day I went in search of Kansas waterfalls with Scott Bean. There had been numerous tornadoes and rainfall the day before so many of the state lakes had filled overnight. After finding two nice new waterfalls, Scott and I headed back to an old faithful location to make images of the waterfall at Chase State Fishing Lake.

Wayne, as usual, a very nice realistic presentation.
I would like to see a larger version.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so... I wonder if darkening the deeper and already dark water might not add to the depth sensation and contrast with the white falls?
I would lighten the foreground greenery slightly, also. My comments are predicated on my monitor and lack of larger version.
Good stuff; thanks for posting.

Hey Wayne, I really like it. The random brighter spots from the sun through the trees gives a very natural "I'm right there" feel to it. I think we both stood in this very spot on our winter Flint Hills outing and tried to make a go of it. You did it this time and I bet it wasn't quite as cold.

Well done.

That is a delightful little gem of a fall. The blue sky and bright green of fresh leaves really make it pop.

Hi Wayne, I really like this view, the vegetation in the foreground is great and the flowing water on the right side leads straight to the falls. I like the blue sky too, but the bright clouds are a bit distracting to me, so I might crop some off the top if you can't tone that down..

Looks like you mus have gotten your feet wet, I hope you didn't get into any poison ivy though.

Sorry for the late reply, not sure how I missed this one Wayne. It looks like we need to have a gathering Kansas soon!

Love the trees, blue sky and clouds, Wayne. To be honest though, the bottom fourth of the composition doesn't add a lot to the overall scene IMO. I might try cropping up to just above the lit portion of the water...and maybe some of the dirt bank on the left to complete the vertical comp.

Thanks for your comments everyone. The critiquing process of an image like this really emphasizes our individual preferences and is an interesting study in what appeals and doesn't appeal to others (and by extension why it's so difficult to sell images).

So far we have a suggestion for dodging/burning the image, toning down or eliminating some of the clouds and cropping the left & bottom. Each variation would result in a substantially different "feel" to the image.

I appreciate your comments & critiques ... they have been a helpful reminder to me to do my best to see through others eyes.
