Yeaterday I clicked on a link (from here no less) and the computer froze up. Couldn't do a thing. The little wheel just kept turning and turning. I couldn't even get to the Task Manager through a control/alt/delete. Nothing from the mouse worked. So out of desperation I shut the computer down. I've done this before and have had no consequences. Nothing was noted until I went to load the PSE10 organizer today. I got a message that the catalog was in use by another program and not available. I'm assuming something happened on the shutdown as PSE was running in the background. I've tried going into the editor and then to the Organizer but to no avail. Can anyone stear me in the right direction on how to tell the program that it is not in use by another program? I'm running a PC with Windows 7.
First, if you remember, what link did you follow? If the link is bad, we need to let others know.
I would run a full virus/malware scan, just to be sure nothing nasty got downloaded to your machine.
What most likely happened is the catalog database used by the organizer is locked, i.e. Windows thinks transactions are occurring.. When this happens, Windows will give the error message you're receiving. I suggest you contact Adobe for a fix.
You could also try using System Restore to restore your machine to an earlier date. Doing so may unlock the database.
I hope you get this sorted out, and please let us know what happens.

Thanks for your input on this Preston. After I wrote the note, I started mentally retracing what had happened and what I had done from the time I had the computer freeze up and when I noted the problem. One thing came to mind was that at the end of the day I had put the computer into the "sleep" mode rather than turning it off so that I could be up and running quickly the next day. I remember from past experience that sometimes rebooting clears things up. When I did that, I was able to access the organizer again. Wish I'd thought of that before sending out the mayday. Appreciate your time in responding and I'll keep your fix in mind should I need an answer again.
As to what may have caused the problem I really don't know. The link I clicked was in the post by Sandy Richards regarding winners in the Chasing the Light competition. I haven't tried it again as I'm a bit gunshy right now.
It sounds like something got crosswise when you came out of sleep mode, although I've never had this happen on my Win 7 box. I'm glad the reboot worked.
