Hello all,

Rick and I scouted around the Gorge today, the flowers are looking good, the rhodies are starting at Multnomah Falls, and the Oneonta Gorge waters weren't too high! So I had never been to the O.G. before and wanted to go, even with the water at waist level at one spot. Here's what we saw.

I think Rick had the better light. The sun was starting to come over the top, but before it did, it gave us some great god rays (as Rick put it). I'll have to revisit this again later this summer, I didn't hyperfocal focus as well as I should have.

Tell me what you think & happy shooting tomorrow.:wavey:

Kevin, nice composition to make use of the light you had. Glad to hear the water is not too high, I'm going to give Oneonta a try in a couple of weeks. What did you guys wear to wade through the water and not freeze?

I think your processing is great, as usual, Kevin, but I'm unsure about the wall on the left. I like it, it's interesting, but I'm not really getting a relation to the gorge and waterfall beyond.

Kevin,
As Mark said, your processing is great. I sorta feel what Mark says about the wall on the left, but it is so beautiful, and lush...I think it adds to the scene...it actually is the main focus of the shot...kinda like...look at this cool wall, and there's a waterfall with sweet light and mist to add icing to the cake.
It was a fun morning out shooting...jamming up that triple falls trail really makes me realize I gotta lose my gut!

I like it, it feels like i'm coming around the corner and seeing the falls for the first time. I might consider darkening the left edge of the wall just a tad to put some emphasis on the falls. Nice image Kev.

Processing is up to it's standard excellence, as always. I have to agree about the left wall being a little too dominant. Rick, I am not sure which you should work on first - maybe the MB's?

Thanks all. A disclaimer: the good light left very quickly (within 10 minutes), so this was my only comp. And I usually explore a scene for longer than that. I see what you're all saying though. But still, for me, it leads me into the scene with more than just a waterfall, especially a shot that's been done at least a thousand times before. There just wasn't anything else there to lock a good comp with that day. Then we lost the light to head on sun.

Kevin, we didn't do anything special to go through the water, we just walked on through (waist high water that day)! My feet started to feel it on the way back and Rick wanted a hiker shot in the water. He kept saying, "hold it, one more shot." If I were going again, I would recommend rafting shorts and kayak type shoes. Your boots will be very wet, and be ready to carry your equipment on your shoulders or above.

I hope to go back this summer in the evening like hours - does anyone know if the light will hit it right for a rainbow in the spray?

One more thing, I'm still up for trying Apparition Falls sometime. Y'know, the NEWEST found waterfall in OR (http://www.splintercat.org/ApparitionFalls/ApparitionPages/ApparitionMap.html). But we may need some rock climbing experience (i.e. Mark  ).

Beautiful composition, Kevin, and excellent light. I feel like I'm peaking out from the FG to a beautifully lit misty fall in the distance. Nice work!

Any suggestions on when the best time to photograph this falls? Is this an early morning or later in the day visit?
