Went up the Dalles Mountain Road, to the columbia hills, it was quite beautiful up there. The wildflowers are at their peak, some of the balsam root is actually fading already. There was all kinds of weather happening today, my favorite kind of day, although really windy.
I was photographing this scene, when a wind storm and cold rain came in quick, so I retreated to the car. I was sitting in the car enjoying the show, when I saw this scene up the hill. I raced up the hill in time to capture this. I was attracted to the texture in the sky and obviously the wildflowers and surrounding hills.

This fellow snuck on me while photographing on the hills, I probably snuck up on him really. I stopped dead in my tracks, everytime I see a rattle snake in the wild I have the same reaction. He was only a few feet away from me, luckily he was out in the open so I saw him. There were a few other photographers in the area, and once I told them about it they wanted to get a few shots, so I figured I might as well get one for posterity
Don't worry I was a good distance away, good ole telephoto lens

That is a nice shot featuring the Lupine. I really like the shot of the little rattler. It's easy to forget they are out there sometimes. Rattlers make me think of 2 years I lived in North Central Oklahoma when I was in my early 20's. The hills around the area I lived in had rattlesnakes, and a round up was held every year out there. I remember one particular specimen that won the contest at 80 inches in length! It was sort of funny because they had this big pit of rattlers on display with the only barrier to the public being a short, 3 ft wall you could look over into them. On the wall was a prominently displayed sign warning viewers to stay out of the pit - as if the sight of hundreds of writhing venomous snakes wasn't enough to discourage the casual observer!

Great shot, Zack. I like how the cloud and the lupine shape match.
The only rattler I've seen out there was dead in the middle of the road. Last weekend I saw a dead badger in the road.
Great sky and matching FG. As for the snake, when I was at Rowena last week I really thought I had just missed steping on one of these guys but it was only a 3-foot Gopher snake. He wouldn't pose for a nice photo like your rattler.
