Valley of Fire
"Spring Canyon"
A still pool of cool water lay at my feet, the result of the forces of nature that helped carve this slot canyon. The colors and shapes in the walls reminded me how even in the desert beauty can be found.

While on a recent trip to visit relatives in Vegas we made a group outing up to Valley of Fire. It had been raining and cold in Vegas for the previous 3 days and this was the first sunny and warm day. It was midday so shooting most things was out of the question (I mostly just climbed the rock formations while I was there). I knew there was a slot canyon though so I decided to check it out. I was rewarded with this nice pool of water and reflection, worth the trip in my opinion.

I'm really taken with the reflection here. And the way the water just starts to appear right there in the foreground. Nice find!

I like this! The colors and the composition are great!

It is definitely something different. Personally, I find the glare on the water distracting and the footprints are a buzz kill too. If it were mine, I'd crop the entire bottom 1/3 of the picture out or at least clone out the footprints and work to reduce the glare.

Michael, thank you for your input. I see it as a reflection and not glare but I purposely left it in the image. I have another shot with the polarizer on and the image is very bland with just dark red muddy water. That's the great thing about Photography though, everyone has different tastes.

It kind of seems like the water is slowing moving towards you. Nice shot. I really love Valley of Fire. There are so many great intimate shots to be found here.

Yea, I think you'll get a wide range of opinions on this one. I'm not bothered by the reflection (I like seeing the sky and tops of the cliffs in it) and the prints don't detract too much and may even add some texture in my opinion. I think cropping the bottom would take away from how the water seems to be oozing in toward you while viewing this. Cool photo.
