IMHO, I think, that there should be a scanned image gallery. this flower turned out great....but, it took much less effort, than my photos of the same flower. Although composition is just as important in scanning as in a taking a photo....you are not "in the moment" relying on your photography skills....reading the light, DOF, POV, etc,
I have no problem in having a separate gallery of scanned images, where composition and the digital darkroom talents can be displayed. Those elements are very important to photography and are well captured with this medium.
A scanned photo is one that was taken with film (that stuff that used to come on rolls ) and is then put through a scanner in order to produce a digital image. Lucy, all my images started in digital cameras so I don't know that I should offer an opinion, but I did want to say that this sunflower photo is really stunning.
This image was taken by placing it on my Epson v300 flatbed scanner. Now, I did select a specific flower and scanned it in several positions, until I got this result....And, yes, I did make sure the digital darkroom gave me all it could.....but, it does not seem "genuine" to me.
I don't know, what is photography anyway..the use of a medium to capture images .............I think this is beautiful, and Gary Yeoh's x-rays and scans are "out of this world". So, maybe I'm thinking too hard. Beauty is beauty. What to scan and how to compose the subject is only limited by the imagination... I'd like to hear what you think.
FYI, I did not use any fancy scanning software..Just the scanning software that came with the v300. I will say, that Epson scanners and printers are the best IMO.
Lucy - While I understand how different scanner capture can be, I don't think it should be its own critique forum for two reasons :
1) It's a very narrow subject for a stand-alone critique forum.
2) The critique forums are defined by their subject, not by how the image is created - they really are intended to be image critiques, not technique critiques (although that's often part of discussing the merits or pitfalls in an image). So posting a scanner image in the appropriate forum still accomplishes that intent.
There are many other things along the same lines that could be split into different forums because of the different skills or time required - for instance, a flash photography forum, or trigger based photo forum, or remote capture forum. In these cases, the focus on a narrow topic defined by a particular technique doesn't seem necessary.

what do you think?
I think a separate gallery is a good idea, but I don't think it will happen due to the logistics.
