On Sunday morning (or was it Saturday night?) I hiked up Mt. Sneffels under the super-moonlight. Maybe I was caught up in the hype, but the moon did seem noticeably brighter than usual! I think I got a moon-tan!
Here's the sunrise from up top. After descending Sneffels, I was feeling gluttonous (or masochistic) so I hiked and snowboarded Gilpin Peak! Read more about the hike and see some more photos here: http://www.mountainphotographer.com/supermoon-on-sneffels/
And, check out the larger photo... this is definitely one of those "bigger is better" kind of shots.
Here's a shot of the super moon setting behind the San Miguel Range. As you can see from the first photo, the sun had a small gap to shine below a band of clouds during sunrise - so the sunrise light only lasted for a couple minutes. So that only left me time for one shot (the first one). But behind me was incredible too, and I'm still debating whether I made the right decision. Imagine this shot above, but with the peaks lit up red and a big pyramidal shadow of Sneffels right next to the moon! It was pretty amazing and I kind of regret missing that shot!
Man, those mountains look never ending in the large view, and you captured it to peak (..ouch!) perfection. Loved reading about your adventure up there, too!
Wow, nice images! Your moonlight walk at high elevation on snow was worth it. Although, I don't think I have that kind of adventure left in me. Well done.
So that's what a sunrise looks like from one of Colorado's most beautiful mountains....
That summit shot from Sneffles is just sick and is easily one of my favorite shots of yours. You routinely get shots that just make me laugh with envy. "Really Jack, seriously?" I mean what the hell are you gonna do next? That may be one of your best Jack. The comp here really works. Is that Cirque Mountain popping up to the left?
Thanks for getting to work at 1:00 am, working your tail off and showing us the results. I feel lucky.
Great shots! I always have the feeling as I see your final images of you and your firends skiing down some ridiculous couloir that I am watching outtakes from a James Bond movie. Beautiful!
Jack, I am glad that you have the legs and lungs to climb up there, as the views you captured are great. The first is like looking out over an ocean of mountains.

John - "Never ending" is a good word to describe the San Juans! (And, nice pun!
