Hello,
New to the forums here, I'm from Manhattan,Ks and am looking for a little CC for this photo. Me and Scott went to this location a week or so ago. I'm wanting to make a print to give the land owner as this spot took a little convincing to get too, sort of a thank you. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Chris

Chris, first off WELCOME! We are glad to have you here.

I like the falls you have in the image here. Looks like a great find. The view and composition look good to me. My only concern is that it might print too dark. On my screen I'd say it needs just a bit of brightening. Maybe not so much on the falls themselves but on the water below and trees above so they do not print so dark. Make sense?

Darren,
Thanks for the welcome! I'll try to brighten those up tonight. I did brighten the tree up on the left already, then i tried to brighten the trees in the background (not the water just the trees). I try both tonight as something just didnt look right with just the trees brightened, almost as if it took too much from the subject. I really appreciate your help on this, I have been looking for a site to get some CC for my photos as I'm fairly new at this, so dont be gentle  . Really wanting to improve and seem to be stuck, especially on the PP. I understand what you mean about printing too dark, I always have to brighten a little before I print on all my pictures, especially ones with alot of shadows in them.
By the way Darren, I love your captures I have seen on here.
Why I'm at it, I would like to give a big thanks too Scott Bean for all his help too!!!!!

Welcome Chris, glad to have you on board. Very nice waterfall and first post. I agree with Darren's ideas on brightening the foreground and background.

Glad to have you on board Chris! I like the black & white. My eye was keeps going to that stick on the top right of the waterfall. I would probably get rid of it. And like you, anytime I ask permission and am able to come away with anything worthwhile I send a print as a thank you, if not worthwhile a thank you note. Some people are so nice to let us on their property!

Hi Chris, welcome!

It's good to see you posting here on CSNP. That sure is a lovely waterfall so it's nice that the landowner made an exception so you two could go photograph it. I'd like to see more detail in the darker areas of the surrounding trees and just a bit more overall contrast.

This one is certainly worth spending a bit more processing time on to get a print that really pops! Looking forward to seeing more from you.

Lots of friendly and helpful folks here. Several are also close to you in Kansas and it sounds like you have already been out shooting with Scott. Keep on posting your stuff.

Thanks everyone for your help, I had a rough day at work so I don't know if I'll get back to it tonight yet or not. If not I will tomorrow night and repost it on here.
Darren,
That's what really drew me to this forum. I know Scott pretty well and also have been out with Wayne too. Both are really helpful and you couldn't ask for two nicer people to be around. There not too bad at changing flat tires too!
Thanks again

Welcome to the forum, Chris...what a great waterfall shot! No need to repeat what others have already said about the brightness - hope you'll repost after a little work. Looking forward to seeing more.

Sorry it took so long to repost. The first picture was a conversion in NIK and I just wasn't able to get the adjustments out of it I liked. This time I just put it in PS and did a manual B&W. I was able to keep alot more detail that way. Lets see what you think of this.
Thanks

I am comparing them side by side on my work monitors and the second post is definitely better!

Thanks for the reply Dottie, I'm thinking maybe a little brighter on the water. Not a much just a little. I probably need to set up to monitor calibrations. My main screen at home is set up a little darker to help me when I print. I'm open to any more suggestions too as I'm still a newbie to all of this. Thanks again.
