There was a lot of noise in our backyard a few days ago. This woodpecker was busy making a hole (nest) in a dead tree. I grabbed my 50-500 OS lens and ventured out to capture a few shots. After about 5 shots he hopped to a near by branch, posed for a few seconds and took off.

Nice catch. Our woodpecker prefers the house siding to trees.

The background was particularly helpful to you in capturing this fine image. Perhaps you can select the eye and see if you can tease enough detail out of it to find a catchlight.

I am not usually one to love bird photos (irrational fear). But, I love this one. Nicely done, the pose and the background are killer.

Not so cute when he's costing you thousands of dollars in new siding! And now he's going for the window trim! I'm a huge animal lover but the sight of these little terrors makes me cringe!
Still, I was never lucky enough to photograph them, too fast for me so kudos for that. Maybe that's the reason they're still alive in my neighborhood... kiddin'

Gotta love hearing the echo of these guys knocking on your siding at 5 in the morning. Nature's alarm clocks.
Not my favorite bird in the world but your shot makes it appear almost likable to me Larry. Good pose and pleasing bokeh. Nicely done.
