Bryce Canyon NP sunrise: Another version
Per Jack's request I'm posting another version of my Bryce Canyon sunrise. This one has a little more depth to it.

"Paintbrush"
When I viewed the scene before me I couldn't help but feel euphoria. It was as though nature had taken its brush and let loose. A hundred hues and shades pulled me into the landscape as forms and figures captured my eyes.

This scene was captured on a cold spring morning just as the sun was rising. Clouds were all around me but there was a break just on the horizon allowing this amazing color to happen. I was jumping for joy after seeing all the color in the sky.

Comparing this to your first post, I prefer the vertical composition here, but I like the colors and luminosity of the horizontal version much better. If you could replicate that processing into this one, you would have the best of both, IMO.

John, the processing was replicated using Lightroom already. For some reason the jpeg just really looks bland on here, but great in LR. I'll punch it up for posting here to make it look better.

better?

I'm still not happy with the way images appear on the forum sometimes. The exported jpeg will look just fine in finder or preview and appear dull and lackluster on the forum.

Yeah, that edited second one didn't do so well. I can tell you from what I saw at your house today...it was a killer image. The one on 500px looks better also. Could be the compression here that hurts. I still think it is a fine image comp wise. I like the vertical better than the horizontal.

Jason, that's a beautifully captured scene! Your first photo in this thread is my fav, definitely got lots going on and doesn't feel overdone.

I prefer the horizontal, this feels like its missing something on the rhs. Real pretty scene! Contrary to John, I think it could use a tiny bit more contrast (the horizontal) but otherwise i liked the processing of the 1st post. The repost here looks oversaturated to me.

Very nice, Jason! I know what you mean, I've found that some of my shots look a little duller here on the forum than elsewhere, and I noticed that these look subtly different in Firefox vs Chrome. I think there have been some threads on this issue in the general site forums, if you're willing to descend into color management hell.

As far as the photos go, I too like the horizontal a bit better. The vertical seems maybe just a hair more magenta (in the sky, and I also see it in the paler parts of the hoodoos), and doesn't seem to be handling the increased sat in the second version as well. I might try very selectively painting in some saturation or glow or whatever effect you prefer.

The vertical version is really nice and I also liked your horizontal one. I probably agree with the consensus that the saturation of the repost is a bit too much, looking at this on Google Chrome, but the first one looked a little flat to me. Somewhere in the middle as far as saturation goes would probably do the trick.

I know the consensus seems to like the horizontal better from what I am reading, but for me, I sort of like the vertical better. I think it makes the road look longer and is nice as a lead in.
